The short list, spot by spot
Each row comes from the Apex city guide. Shade, crowds and season ratings are guide ratings out of 5, not a forecast. Parking notes come from the Town where it lists them.
| Spot | Parking and hours | Shade | Crowds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Historic Downtown Apex (Salem Street) | Seaboard and Saunders lots allow 3 hours, the Depot lot allows 2 hours | Low | Moderate |
| Apex Nature Park | Lots at 2600 Evans Road and 2500 Evans Road | Some | Moderate |
| Seagroves Farm Park | 201 Parkfield Drive | Some | Moderate |
| Beaver Creek Greenway | A Town greenway, step-free access confirmed | Some | Quiet |
| Apex Community Park | 2200 Laura Duncan Road, open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. | Some | Busy |
| Salem Pond Park | 6112 Old Jenks Road, open 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. | Low | Moderate |

Best season for each spot
Spring is a 4 of 5 at all six places, so it is a safe choice. Fall is a 5 of 5 at Apex Nature Park, Seagroves Farm Park, the Beaver Creek Greenway, Apex Community Park and Salem Pond Park, and 4 downtown. Summer rates 2 at every spot, because the heat is hard and the light is harsh at midday. Winter rates 3 downtown, at Seagroves, Apex Community Park and Salem Pond Park, and 2 elsewhere.
If you book in summer, ask for a start about 90 minutes before sunset. The golden hour calculator gives the time for any date. For ratings across the whole Triangle, see the photo spots by season.
For toddlers and for teens
Younger kids need a place to move. Seagroves Farm Park has a pond walk, a fishing pier and a playground. Salem Pond Park has two ponds and a train-themed playground. Apex Nature Park lists a dog park, a disc golf course and an outdoor amphitheater, so there is room to run.
Teens and couples often do better downtown, where the 1912 Town Hall and the Union Depot give brick and period frames. The Town describes the downtown as a blend of historic charm and pedestrian-friendly streets.
Permits and park rules
The Town of Apex park pages list no photography policy. The honest answer is to check before you go. Call Apex Town Hall at 919-249-3400 and ask about a paid family session at your chosen park. I confirm the rule for your date before you book.
Parks in other towns often have their own rules. The Wake County permits guide lists each one with the date it was read.

A rain plan
Pick a backup date when you book, and keep the weather in mind a day ahead. Weather reschedules are always free, so nobody has to shoot in a downpour. If the forecast looks bad, message me and we pick a new date. The Apex page has more on each spot.
How a session works here
