What a LinkedIn photo has to do
Your LinkedIn photo is small, and it is often the first thing a recruiter, client or colleague sees. A good one does four jobs.
Framing. Head and shoulders, with the eyes in the upper third of the frame, reads clearly at thumbnail size. A full-length shot loses the face.
Expression. A relaxed, direct look says approachable and capable. A forced smile shows, so I take short breaks between frames.
Background. A soft, uncluttered background keeps the focus on you. Outdoor sessions use natural light with trees or brick. Office sessions use a clean wall or a window.
Consistency. Use the same photo on LinkedIn, your email signature, your company page and your speaker bios, so people recognize you everywhere.
Which package for LinkedIn?
| Package | Price | Time | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Professional | $250 | About 20 min | 1 to 2 looks, 2 retouched images |
| The Personal Brand | $395 | About 45 min | 2 to 3 outfits or backdrops, 5 retouched images, headshot plus environmental |
If you only need one profile photo, The Professional is enough. Pick The Personal Brand if you also want a second look for your website or a speaker bio.

Phone photo or a photographer?
A phone photo can work. Here is a neutral checklist to decide.
- Light. Window light works, but it changes by the minute. A photographer controls the light and the angle.
- Angle. A phone held at arm's length bends the face. A camera at eye level with the right lens keeps it natural.
- Consistency. One strong image can serve every profile. Several phone shots often do not match.
- Update rhythm. If your look changes or you change roles, refresh the photo. A session is a short appointment.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How much do headshots cost?
The Professional is $250 for 2 retouched images. The Personal Brand is $395 for 5. On-site team headshots are $150 per person, $1,200 for a half day or $2,200 for a full day. Prices are before tax, and the quote builder adds travel and tax for your exact total.
What should I wear for a headshot?
Solid colors in mid or deep tones photograph well, and a jacket or collared top gives structure. Skip busy patterns and tiny stripes. Bring a second outfit if you book The Personal Brand. The headshot wardrobe guide has a checklist for LinkedIn, executive, medical and team headshots.
What framing works best for a LinkedIn photo?
A tight head-and-shoulders frame with your eyes in the upper third reads best, because LinkedIn shows your photo in a small circle. I shoot at eye level and leave room around the head so the crop stays safe. Check the current size limits on LinkedIn Help before you upload.
Should I smile in my LinkedIn photo?
A small, real smile reads best, and a stiff smile looks as tense as no smile. The first minute is usually the stiffest, so the session builds in time to settle. I direct each frame, so you do not need to know how to pose. A friendly, relaxed face is the goal.
How often should I replace my LinkedIn photo?
Replace it when you look different, such as a new haircut, new glasses or a new role. A photo that is more than a few years old can make a first meeting feel like a surprise. There is no fixed schedule, and one session can also give you a second photo for your website.
