Where Raleigh headshots happen
I come to your Raleigh office, or we meet at a park or garden. Three outdoor places in the city guide suit a headshot.
| Setting | Backdrop | Shade | Crowds | Permit and rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your Raleigh office | A clean wall or a window with good light. | Indoors | Private | None needed |
| Dorothea Dix Park | Large city park open dawn to dusk. | Low shade | Moderate | City permit: one year, all city parks |
| WRAL Azalea Gardens | 1.5-acre public garden with 60+ azalea varieties that bloom in spring and fall, plus a fountain used for photos. | Some shade | Moderate | No reservation for daytime photography |
| Raleigh Municipal Rose Garden | About 1,200 roses of 60 varieties, blooming late May to autumn. | Low shade | Moderate | City permit applies: confirm with the city |
Dix Park is open dawn to dusk and has free paved and gravel lots near the Big Field, Flowers Field and the bottom of the Sunflower Field. There is no roadside or grass parking. The WRAL Azalea Gardens cover 1.5 acres with more than 60 azalea varieties and a fountain, and parking is free in the lot across from the gardens. The Municipal Rose Garden has about 1,200 roses, but its own spaces are very limited, so most people park along Pogue Street.
Raleigh office sessions
Most Raleigh headshots need no park at all. Tell me the building, the floor and the room, and I confirm the plan before you book. A window with side light and a plain wall is enough. Ask your building about loading and visitor parking before the date, because garages and security desks differ.
Teams can book on-site rates of $150 per person, $1,200 for a half day or $2,200 for a full day. Add the $50 Raleigh travel fee once for the visit.
The Raleigh permit, in plain words
Raleigh Parks requires a one-year commercial photography permit for city parks, and the permit covers all City of Raleigh parks. Dix Park says professional photographers are welcome but need that permit. Wake County asks for a free registration in its parks, and NC State Parks needs a Special Activity Permit. The azalea garden says no reservation is needed for daytime photography.
An office session needs none of this. For a park, I confirm the rule for your date before you book.

Guide ratings out of 5 from the Raleigh location guide, not a forecast.
Spring is the strongest season at the azalea garden, which rates 5 of 5, and the garden says its azaleas bloom again in fall. The Rose Garden blooms from late May into autumn. Summer is hard at open-sky Dix Park, so book near sunset or choose your office. Winter works best indoors or in the garden on a clear day.
What to wear in Raleigh
The azalea garden is pink and green in spring, so skip hot pink and bright green. Navy, charcoal and cream stand out against the blooms.
In an office with a plain wall, navy, grey and charcoal give a calm frame. The headshot wardrobe guide has a checklist.
